The awards are decided on by an international jury of hospitality experts, mainly from the World Travel and Tourism Council, and by votes from the public.

Previously, the 2019 World Travel Awards for Asia and Oceania chose Vietnam as ‘Asia’s Leading Culinary Destination’ at a regional ceremony held in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang in October.

Vietnam was also named Asia’s Leading Destination and Asia’s Leading Cultural Destination while Hoi An won the title of Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination.

The country was then honored as a World Leading Heritage Destination in 2019 by the WTA in the grand final in November in Oman.
