Mr. Hung noted the appeal of Phu Quoc Island to Indian tourists, highlighting their interest in exploring and relaxing on the island. He also mentioned that Indian couples have chosen the island as their wedding destination.
“Historically, there was a direct air link between India and Phu Quoc Island, but it is currently suspended. We aim to reinstate this connection to boost tourism between our destinations,” Mr. Hung said, expressing his hopes for a relaunched air service.
Phu Quoc’s administration is committed to making it easier for Indian citizens to visit, work, and even reside on the island, creating a welcoming environment for all.
According to the local administration, Phu Quoc City hosted approximately 32,800 Indian tourists in 2023, and this number is expected to grow. In the first months of 2024, the city has already welcomed nearly 12,000 Indian visitors.
The Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, Sethi, met with officials from the Phu Quoc City People’s Committee to discuss enhancing tourism cooperation. He proposed a collaboration to organize cultural events and an international yoga festival on the island in June, aiming to stimulate tourism and strengthen the bilateral relationship between India and Phu Quoc.
