The Kotler Awards, one of the most prestigious economic accolades, founded by Professor Philip Kotler, illuminated Ho Chi Minh City with its 2024 ceremony on Friday night. The spotlight fell on the ‘Hoi An – Craft Villages Go Digital’ project, which emerged as the winner in the ‘Impactful Digital & Inno-tech’ category.

This innovative project was designed to forge digital connections among artisans, empowering them to navigate the intricate world of online sales. It commenced with a comprehensive series of seminars, workshops, and consulting activities, all aimed at revitalizing traditional craft villages by harnessing the exponential growth of e-commerce.

Quang Nam Province, home to the enchanting Hoi An City, boasts a plethora of skilled artisans and a diverse range of unique products. However, many craft villages within the province are facing challenges due to their adherence to traditional selling practices, struggling to keep their heads above water in the evolving market landscape.

The ‘Hoi An – Craft Villages Go Digital’ initiative rose as a beacon of support, with marketing experts and consultants traveling to these craft villages. They shared their expertise, guiding artisans in leveraging technology to enhance the value of their handicrafts and access the global marketplace.

Hoi An, a city steeped in cultural heritage, is renowned for its rich tapestry of traditional crafts and craft villages, with around 50 of them gracing its landscape. Many of these villages have been recognized as national intangible cultural heritage sites, reflecting their profound significance.

Local authorities are deeply committed to preserving and promoting these crafts and craft villages, recognizing their intrinsic value to tourism and the city’s cultural fabric.

This commitment aligns seamlessly with Hoi An’s recent honor of being inducted into the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of craft and folk arts in late October 2023, further cementing its global recognition.

The Kotler Awards, a hallmark of excellence, celebrates outstanding achievements and contributions across marketing, innovation, and leadership in a myriad of industries. This year marks the second time the awards have graced Vietnam, with the nation first hosting the event in 2022.

Vietnam’s presence on the Kotler Awards map underscores its dynamic economic landscape and the boundless potential that continues to flourish within its borders.
