Hội An, an ancient town in Central Vietnam, holds a special place in the history of Vietnam-Japan relations. Over 400 years ago, this picturesque town served as a bustling trade port, fostering a thriving partnership between the two nations.
To honor and strengthen this enduring bond, the local government has actively promoted friendship, cooperation, and cultural exchange with Japanese partners and communities. A key initiative in this effort is an annual cultural exchange program, first launched in 2003, which has since seen increased investment and joint implementation by Vietnamese and Japanese artisans and artists.
Nguyen Van Son, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoi An, emphasized the deep-rooted friendship and shared heritage between Vietnam and Japan. He highlighted how the relationship has been carefully nurtured over the centuries through various cooperation activities across multiple fields.
“The recent renovation and inauguration of the Cau Pagoda stand as a testament to our joint efforts in cultural heritage conservation,” Son added. “It symbolizes the strong bridge connecting the friendship between Hoi An and Japan, built upon our shared history and cultural exchange.”
