At the meeting, a representative from Tuoi Tre newspaper shared that the festival aims to promote and celebrate Vietnam’s rich culinary heritage, with a focus on elevating Vietnamese rice through the beloved dish, pho. Pho is a harmonious blend of broth, rice noodles, fresh herbs, and meat, typically beef or chicken.
The Tuoi Tre representative emphasized that the festival will be more than just a culinary gathering; it will serve as a cultural exchange, fostering connections and dialogue between people from Vietnam and South Korea.
By organizing the Vietnam Phở Festival 2024, Tuoi Tre hopes to strengthen the trade relationship between Vietnam and South Korea and reinforce their comprehensive strategic partnership.
Lee, representing the South Korean Embassy in Vietnam, expressed his confidence in the festival’s success, assuring the support of the South Korean people. He commended Tuoi Tre for choosing September, a month known for its cool weather in Seoul, as the ideal time to hold such an event.
Lee also offered suggestions for potential venues and shared his personal dream of opening a pho restaurant in Seoul upon his retirement.

“It would be fantastic to have a pho festival hosted by Tuoi Tre in the coming years,” he added.
The South Korean Embassy pledged its support and offered to facilitate connections between the festival organizers and relevant units in South Korea.
Lee, a self-proclaimed lover of Vietnamese cuisine, acknowledged the challenges of organizing such an event abroad but expressed his enthusiasm for promoting Vietnamese culture and cuisine. “I hope that through this festival, more South Koreans will come to appreciate the delights of pho and the richness of Vietnam’s cultural offerings,” he said.
The Day of Pho (December 12) was first established by Tuoi Tre newspaper in 2017 and has since become an annual tradition. In 2023, the event crossed borders and was held in Japan, introducing Vietnamese pho to an international audience under the name Vietnam Phở Festival.
