According to Hua Hon Buu, one of the recipients, most people living in his area are factory workers or self-employed laborers with a low income. Many of them have lost their jobs since the fourth Covid-19 wave broke out in late April.

“After this area was locked down, we have been facing a shortage of necessities and it’s hard for us to buy food such as rice or instant noodles,” he said.

Buu and his family earn a living by selling herb drinks. However, they have lost their livelihoods over the past month.

“For us, these gifts are like rain in a drought,” he said.
