Addressing the event, PM Phuc stressed that with its unique patterns and colours, brocade delivers the distinguished cultural identity and aesthetic of ethnic groups. Not only being used as a clothing material, brocade also reflects people’s worldview and human life; thus, brocade culture plays a key role in tribes’ spiritual cultural life, he stated.
He asked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) and relevant ministries and sectors to integrate cultural value of brocade products in developing community-based tourism models in each area.
He also assigned the Ministry of Information and Communications as well as media agencies to popularise the cultural value of Vietnamese brocade to domestic and international visitors.
The MOCST, and the Ministry of Trade were requested to coordinate with fashion brands, localities and brocade businesses to bring the material into the production of high-end products. From now on, brocade will be one of the gifts prepared for the Prime Minister and Party and State’s leaders during their working trips abroad, he asserted.
He pledged that the Government will work out policies and solutions to preserve and uphold the treasured value of Vietnamese brocade.
Taking place until January 16, the first Vietnam Brocade Culture Festival aims to honour the traditional brocade craftsmanship of Vietnamese ethnic groups. It is also designed as a venue for local artisans to exchange experience and shape the sustainable handicraft in society.
Major events held in the framework of the festival include the exhibition of Vietnamese brocade cultural spaces, brocade weaving practice sessions, restoration of several aspects of traditional ethnic minority festivals, and art performances.
The festival also features a conference on brocade culture, a street festival, and a brocade fashion show.
