Truong Thi Ngoc Cam, Director of the city’s information and culture center, confirmed that the upcoming art performance program in Hoi An, Vietnam will showcase tourism promotion, local crafts, and traditional arts. The city’s art troupe will be playing “bài chòi,” a unique combination of a card game and theater performance. The troupe will also feature folk dances and musical performances. Notably, “bài chòi” has been recognized as a UNESCO world intangible cultural heritage and can be seen performed in Hoi An every weekend.
The artists will also showcase various traditional dances and musical instruments from different ethnic groups, including the Chăm dance, saranai flute, Vietnamese two-choir fiddle, and Thai group’s Cheraw dance. The performance will take place from 6pm to 9pm at the Vietnamese Culture Centre in Paris, located at No 19 Albert Rue.
Truong Thi Ngoc Cam highlighted that this European tour not only promotes tourism but also showcases the rich culture of Hoi An, a UNESCO-recognized world heritage site. The central Quang Nam Province, where Hoi An is located, is the only one in Vietnam with two world heritage sites: the My Son Sanctuary and Hoi An ancient town. Moreover, the world biosphere reserve of Hoi An-Cham Islands is located just off the coast. Hoi An also hosts annual cultural exchange events with Japan and South Korea.
