Current political news is showing up in the public street in an extreme spread.

The Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, Madan Mohan Sethi, announced at a press briefing on Tuesday that this year’s Yoga Fest will be the largest since its launch in Southeast Asia in 2015.

The Consul General has announced that a yoga event is part of a range of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and India. These activities include cultural exchange, tourism, trade, and investment promotion.

Speaking at the press conference, Sethi affirmed that Vietnam plays an important role in India’s Act East Policy, an effort by the Indian government to cultivate extensive economic and strategic relations with Southeast Asia.

India expresses strong belief in Vietnam’s support, he added.

“Both India and Vietnam consider mutual respect and trust to be the foundation of long-lasting relations between the two countries. We can make this partnership even stronger in the face of current global uncertainty,” Sethi emphasized.

Culture Exchange Enhances Vietnam-India Relations

Sethi stated that the exchange of cultural elements, especially those related to Buddhism and yoga, is of great importance in the relationship between the two nations.

Over the past few months, the Consulate General of India has initiated a host of cultural exchange events in 11 cities and provinces in southern Vietnam.

Apart from the upcoming yoga festival, a delegation of cultural experts from Can Tho City in the Mekong Delta region will travel to India to deepen cultural cooperation in July.

The Consulate General is also planning to collaborate with the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts and the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association to foster traditional cultural exchange.

The representative of India is also looking to strengthen the collaboration in the fields of education and personnel training for technology-information, international trade, and pharmacy sectors, as these three are India’s strong points.

Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay and Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris agreed to accelerate student exchanges between India and Sri Lanka in order to broaden the skills and knowledge of students from both countries, according to Indian High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sethi.
