The festival was a notable feature of the Namaste Vietnam Festival 2023. Its opening ceremony was held on Saturday at the prestigious Hoa Binh Theater in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City.
The film event was jointly organized by the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnam Cinema Association.
At the closing night of the festival, spectators were thrilled by the screening of ‘Kaya Palat,’ a film directed by Shoib Nikash Shahm. The highly anticipated film features a talented cast including Tariq Khan, Rohil Bhatia, and Helly Shah.
According to Do Lenh Hung Tu, Chairman of the Vietnam Cinema Association, the three-day festival showcased a total of seven Bollywood films while also providing an opportunity to promote Indian culture among the Vietnamese population. The event also featured a variety of traditional dishes, further adding to its cultural appeal.
The purpose of the film festival was to strengthen the existing cinema partnership between the two nations, as emphasized by the speaker.
According to Tu, we have received numerous inquiries from Indian filmmakers during the festival, expressing their interest in shooting in Ho Chi Minh City and other areas of Vietnam.
“After viewing the thought-provoking film Kaya Palat, I found it to be a fitting conclusion to the festival as it effectively conveys the concept of the law of causality. The emotions evoked by this movie were profound, leaving a lasting impression on me.”

According to Vietnamese director Xuan Phuong, the film inspires a universal fear of hatred and offers a valuable message of tolerance, emphasizing the importance of forgiveness and moving forward.
According to Mai Thu Huyen, an acclaimed actress and director, India holds a cherished place in her heart and she considers herself a devoted fan of Indian cinema.
“The film captivated me from beginning to end with its unexpected turns,” she expressed, further emphasizing her admiration for the film’s writer and director for their artistry in conveying a profound message.
The inaugural Namaste Vietnam Festival took place in 2022 with the purpose of fostering connections between the Vietnamese and Indian communities through trade and tourism promotion, as well as cultural exchange activities.
The noteworthy events of this year’s edition included the Indian Film Festival, as well as seminars on tourism, railways, and cinema in Vietnam-India cooperation.
