The New Year welcoming event at Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1 will now take place from 22:00 on Friday to 00:10 on Saturday, instead of Le Duan Street as initially announced. To ensure the safety of the public, audiences across Vietnam are encouraged to join the virtual countdown through television, radio, and online platforms instead of gathering at the physical location. The municipal Department of Culture and Sports will be coordinating with local traffic police to control vehicles and prohibit parking around Nguyen Hue and its surrounding areas during the event. Originally, 1,000 participants were planned to attend the event but it was later canceled due to the high risk of COVID-19 transmission. Additionally, the annual fireworks display in Ho Chi Minh City on New Year’s Eve has been canceled this year to avoid overcrowding and the spread of COVID-19.
