The 10th Capital Sports Congress commenced on October 7th at the Hanoi Athletics Palace under the theme “Togetherness – Shining Bright”.
The sports congress is part of the celebratory events marking the 68th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi, which takes place on October 10th.
Over 7,000 athletes will participate in 25 sports during the event, which will run from October 7th to October 23rd, 2022.
Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Chu Xuan Dung, stated in his opening remarks that the presence of over 800,000 athletes at the congress is a successful outcome of the qualifications held across all 30 districts and towns in the city.
Dung also mentioned that through the district-level qualification, numerous talented athletes have been uncovered, who will undoubtedly play a significant role in the future successes of Vietnam and Hanoi.
Hanoi has consistently excelled in sports and achieved numerous accomplishments in recent international and regional competitions.
At the 31st Southeast Asian Games in 2021, Hanoi athletes and coaches earned 213 medals, accounting for 30% of Vietnam’s total medal count. These medals included 62 gold, 35 silver, and 116 bronze.
Vice Chairman Dung emphasized that the 10th Capital Sports Congress is a significant event that encourages physical training among the residents of Hanoi.
He added that the collective participation of players, coaches, and officials in the sports event will foster a deep sportsmanship spirit among the locals, promote professional sports training, and drive Hanoi towards achieving even better results in future competitions.
