THE HANOI TIMES ─ In a landmark move, the Hanoi People’s Committee has officially appointed the Hanoi Police Department as the city’s leading cybersecurity authority. This designation empowers the department to protect the information systems of all municipal departments and agencies, marking a significant step toward fortifying Hanoi’s digital infrastructure.

Under Decision No. 3614/QĐ-UBND, the Hanoi Police Department has been granted a comprehensive mandate to oversee both strategic planning and technical operations in cybersecurity. This includes the development of robust cybersecurity mechanisms, policies, strategies, and action plans to address emerging digital threats.
The department will conduct thorough evaluations of Hanoi’s information systems, ensuring they align with national cybersecurity standards. Additionally, it will monitor high-security systems across the city to preempt potential vulnerabilities.
In collaboration with the National Cybersecurity Center, under the Ministry of Public Security, the department will play a pivotal role in responding to cybersecurity incidents, eradicating malware, thwarting cyberattacks, and safeguarding critical digital services. It will also bolster Hanoi’s e-government initiatives, digital economy, and online public platforms.
Key responsibilities include proactive measures to prevent and combat cyberattacks, safeguard personal information online, and ensure the protection of children in the digital realm.
