The Binh An Center is located on Pham The Hien Street in Ho Chi Minh City. The “Street Children’s Friend” (FFSC) program was established in 1984 to help poor street children. Currently, the centre consists of 240 pupils, children from poor families in the District 8 and Binh Chanh district. The children study for free from kindergarten to the fifth grade. For more than 2 years, Rick has taught 2 English lessons every week to children.
66-year-old American teacher Rick, (real name – Richard Joseph Hoesch) teaches charity classes of English to poor children in the Binh An Center (District 8, Ho Chi Minh City). Children in the Binh An Center are always passionate about studying in Rick’s class. |
Rick goes to the centre on his sports bike. He always talks with the assistant teachers and prepares for lessons. The classroom is not very large, but more than 40 small students in the class are pleased with the presence of Rick. The American teacher’s humour makes the atmosphere in the class very exciting.
Rick said “Children always please me, they are very kind. They have helped me a lot as do the Vietnamese teachers. “
For the Rick, Vietnam is a great place. When he came to Ho Chi Minh City in 2013, he was introduced to “Friend of Street Children” (FFSC) program and loved this organization with its orientation and goals that bring humanitarian values to the children. Rick said that he loves the weather of Vietnam and does not want to leave the children in the Binh An Centre.
