Award ceremony of “Bui Xuan Phai – For the Love of Hanoi” honors outstanding Hanoi contributors

The prizes are of great encouragement, honoring individuals and groups for their contribution to the cultural development of the capital.

Overcoming three nominations in the final round of the 14th “Bui Xuan Phai – For the Love of Hanoi” Award in 2021, the “Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign in Hanoi” has just been honored as the winner of the award – category “Actions – For the Love of Hanoi”.

Running from September 10 to September 15, the “speedy” vaccination campaign and large-scale testing in Hanoi has achieved impressive results.

According to the statistic released on September 17, more than 4.255 million coronavirus test samples had been collected throughout the city. At the same time, Hanoi also injected more than 6.25 million doses of vaccine, with 5.57 million people receiving the first dose and nearly 682,000 people were fully vaccinated. About 80% of the city’s 5.7 million adults have received at least one shot in record time.

The “Grand Prize- For the Love of Hanoi” is awarded to musician Hong Dang for his outstanding contributions to the capital’s music scene. He is the author of excellent musical works that have become iconic song themed Hanoi such as Hoa sua (Blackboard Tree’s Flowers), Ky niem thanh pho tuoi tho (Celebrating the City of Childhood), Nguoi Song Hong (The Red River’s Residents), Duyen Hanoi (Hanoi’s Charm), among others.

The photobook titled “Hanoi 1967 – 1975” by German photographer Billhardt Thomas won the category “Works- For the Love of Hanoi”.

The project “Using virtual reality technology in reconstructing Dien Huu – One Pillar Pagoda” together with  the idea of building an underground highway and renovating the To Lich River into a historical, cultural, and spiritual park; as well as the  Red River Urban Subdivision Planning Project  won the category “Ideas – For the Love of Hanoi”

Bui Xuan Phai- For the Love of Hanoi Awards comprise four categories: “Grand Prize”, “Works- For the Love of Hanoi”, “Ideas – For the Love of Hanoi” and “Actions – For the Love of Hanoi”. This year, it received 35 nominations.

The award was initiated by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA)’s Sports and Culture newspaper and the family of the late famous painter Bui Xuan Phai (1920-1988) in 2008 to honor his career and spread his love for the capital city.

Speaking to kick-off the ceremony that took place last weekend, Editor-in-chief of Sports and Culture newspaper Le Van Thanh said that despite difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the newspaper kept organising the humane awards.

“The annual Bui Xuan Phai – For Love of Hanoi Awards is the meaningful awards honor artworks and deeds for the love of Hanoi, thus contributing to building locals’ cultural life,” he said.

On the occasion of the award ceremony, the Bui Xuan Phai Award Organizing Committee – For the Love of Hanoi also launched a photo and video clip contest with the theme “The Hanoi Green”.

All individuals of all ages and groups who are either in Vietnam or aboard are invited to participate in the contest. They can submit an unlimited number of works with content honoring the beauty of Hanoi’s trees and water surface as well as daily human activities associated with those green spaces of the city.

Contestants may send entries or links of entries to email [email protected]; or send printed copies to the Newspaper of Sport and Culture, No 11 Tran Hung Dao Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi.

The final results will be announced on the contest website. The Special Prize for the best work is worth at least VND30 million (US$1315), in addition to the First, Second, Third, and Consolation prizes.

The winning works will be displayed and awarded at the 15th “Bui Xuan Phai – For the Love of Hanoi” Award Ceremony in 2022.
