The exhibition was jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Affairs and Hanoi People’s Committee in celebration of the 55th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN. The awarded photos will be showcased in Hai Phong, Quang Ninh and Bac Lieu and the “Golden ASEAN Festival” held by the Ministry of Affairs. |
According to Vi Kien Thanh, head of the Culture Ministry’s Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition, this is the photographic exhibition with the highest number of entries that has been held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam in recent years. Since the submitting and marking of the entries was conducted via the internet, many countries sent in a large number of entries by a number of participants. From 10,127 photos by both professional and amateur photographers, the organising board selected 230 bestby 136 photographers from 10 ASEAN countries, 61 of whom are Vietnamese, for display.
The photos, such as “We Love Malaysia” by Tan Ee Long from Malaysia, “Kyite Htee Yoe-The Golden Rock Pagoda” by Nyaung U Than Htay from Myanmar and “Bac Son Valley” by Vu Kim Khoa from Vietnam which are highly appreciated in terms of quality and artistic values, vividly and truthfully depict the country, people, culture, society, economy and exchange activities of the member nations.
The organising board and representatives from embassies of 10 ASEAN countries cut the ribbon to inaugurate the photo exhibition. The 10 most outstanding photos by 10 photographers, who are also representatives of 10 ASEAN countries, are awarded trophies titled “ASEAN Photos – 2017”. The organising board presents commemorative medals to members of the exhibition’s Arts Council. The exhibition attracts a large number of tourists. |
The awarded photos, such as We Love Malaysia by Tan Ee Long from Malaysia, Kyite Htee Yoe-The Golden Rock Pagoda by Nyaung U Than Htay from Myanmar and Bac Son Valley by Vu Kim Khoa from Vietnam, present new angles of the beauty of the local culture and people.
Photographer Vu Kim Khoa said: “My photo of Bac Son Valley shows the original mountain landscape. It is a beautiful landscape of Vietnam. I try to reveal the romantic beauty of the scenery of the mountain region with a focus on the rice valley and images of local farmers”.
According tothe organising board, it is not only a cultural activity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN (1967-2017), but also a playground for photographers and photo enthusiasts from ASEAN members to learn and exchange experiences.
