2018 Southern Fruit Festival kicks off

NDO – The 14th Southern Fruit Festival 2018 opened at the Suoi Tien Culture and Tourism site in Ho Chi Minh City on June 1, attracting a large number of visitors.

The event is held annually by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, Suoi Tien Cultural Tourism Joint Stock Company, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade.

A series of programmes, such as a floating fruit market, a ‘Delicious and Safe Southern Fruit’ competition, and a parade of “giant fruit’ for a fashion show with fruit patterns, will be organised during the festival.

Notably, the fruit at the floating market will be on sale for 20-30% less than market prices.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, said that the event is an annual cultural and tourist event by Ho Chi Minh City. The event aims to introduce visitors to the unique features and wide variety of fresh fruit grown in the Southern region, and to honour the outstanding individuals and organisations in the field of agriculture.

Furthermore, the festival is also an occasion to honor the achievements in the field of agriculture, contributing to preserving the portray arts of fruits and promote the Vietnamese cultural identity. Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism Anh Hoa expressed her hope this year’s festival with many special programmes will attract more visitors, contributing to boosting tourism in Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the country in general.

The festival runs until June 17.
