THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi’s cultural heartbeat pulses once more with the revival of the Hanoi Weekend Music project, a cherished community initiative that infuses the capital with a fresh auditory experience.
Set against the backdrop of the Ly Thai To Flower Garden, this series pays homage to jazz—a genre that mirrors the city’s soul: effortless, expansive, and deeply intertwined with its rhythm.

This Sunday, January 11, Meritorious Artist Quyen Van Minh joins forces with musicians from the Binh Minh Jazz Club for a seamless blend of global jazz classics and Vietnamese compositions.
The afternoon commences with “Hanoi – Faith and Hope,” Phan Nhan’s timeless tribute to the capital, setting a tone of renewal as the year begins.
The program then delves into jazz’s modern repertoire. Charlie Parker’s bebop masterpieces—“Yardbird Suite” and “Now’s the Time”—introduce sharp melodies and improvisational flair, while bossa nova staples like “Blue Bossa” and “Recado Bossa Nova” infuse warmth and rhythmic fluidity, subtly shifting the ambiance.
Melody enthusiasts will delight in recognizable tunes such as “Quizás, Quizás, Quizás,” “L.O.V.E.,” “Misty,” “All of Me,” and “New York, New York.”
Reimagined through jazz phrasing, these songs retain their allure while unveiling deeper layers. The inclusion of Le da (Tears of Stone), a Vietnamese classic rich in narrative, adds emotional depth and local resonance.

International visitors flock to the Octagonal House by Hoan Kiem Lake, drawn to Hanoi’s Weekend Music Rendezvous and its open-air jazz tradition.
Hanoi Weekend Music transcends the concert experience, becoming a cornerstone of Hanoi’s cultural calendar. Held every Sunday at 3:30 PM, it has fostered a dedicated audience and a shared listening tradition where jazz is not exclusive but an integral part of the city’s daily rhythm.
Free and open to all, this gathering continues to embrace residents and visitors alike, offering a serene contrast to Hanoi’s tempo and a reminder that some of the city’s most enduring dialogues are expressed through music.
