Ho Chi Minh City festival calls for environmental protection using leaves
A recent festival in Ho Chi Minh City introduced and promoted architecture, cuisine, and performing arts related to leaves with an aim to raise awareness of increasing green coverage, using leaves, and abandoning plastic bags for environmental protection.
Named ‘Leaf Festival,’ the event took place at Ao Dai Museum in Thu Duc City under the southern metropolis on Sunday.
Delegates and participants in the fest tried making flower gates and toys out of leaves, designing fashion with leaves, and enjoyed cakes wrapped in leaves.
“Increasing the use of leaves — such as lotus leaves, banana leaves, nipa leaves, and many others — and limiting the use of environmentally unfriendly materials like plastic bottles and bags will help protect the environment,” said Huynh Ngoc Van, director of Ao Dai Museum.
Many outstanding delegates who made notable contributions to society also donned a collection of ‘ao dai’ (Vietnam’s traditional long gown) with leaf patterns in a show at the festival.
