Fans and experts had many doubts about the Ho Chi Minh City Wings’ performance at the start of the season due to the team’s previous failures.
Despite a squad with many young players, the Wings scored a surprising victory in their opening game after defeating Hanoi Buffaloes 91-69.
This proved that the intensive and high-quality training programs for the team’s young athletes had been effective.

Throughout the season, many members of Ho Chi Minh City Wings, namely Nguyen Huynh Hai, Vo Huy Hoan, and Vincent Nguyen, made very strong impressions with their excellent performance.
One of Vincent Nguyen’s highlights was his successful three-pointer at the very last seconds of Game 14, which helped the team defeat Cantho Catfish.
The two foreign players, Makinde London and Jeremy Smith, also contributed a lot to the team’s strength.

Makinde London has a similar play style to VBA superstar Mike Bell. Bell himself once stated that London is his younger version
Meanwhile, Smith has a diverse skill set and is considered the best player of Ho Chi Minh City Wings this year.
It will be ideal for the Wings to keep the same lineup at the VBA 2022, as long as the VBA does not change its rules and limit the number of foreign players on each team to only one.

After becoming the runner-up at the VBA 2016, Ho Chi Minh City Wings has been unable to advance to the finals in the following seasons.
This year, the team finally found the perfect coach – Erik Olson. Olson is not only experienced but also good at understanding each member of the team.
It will be a huge loss if Olson does not lead the team next year.
For the time being, Ho Chi Minh City Wings can surely believe in a bright future with their high-quality lineup.
