The first prize of the 49th Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter Writing Contest was awarded to Dao Anh Thu, a student from class 8A2 at Nguyen Huy Tuong secondary school in Dong Anh district, on May 4th in Hanoi. The award was presented by a representative from the Ministry of Information and Communications.

The 2021 UPU International Letter Writing Contest, with the theme “Writing to a family member about your experience of the Covid-19 pandemic”, was organized by the Department of Information and Communications of Hanoi in coordination with the Department of Education and Training, Hanoi City Youth Union, and Hanoi Post Office. The contest opened on December 1, 2020, and attracted the participation of 1,148,124 students from all over Vietnam.
The Covid-19 pandemic continues to be a serious issue worldwide, requiring collaboration among all countries. Each individual has had different experiences with the pandemic, which has greatly impacted the world and the lives of people everywhere.
Through the contest, students had the opportunity to improve their writing skills and demonstrate their understanding of the Covid-19 pandemic. The entries in this year’s letter writing competition were diverse, with the students expressing their pride in Vietnam’s success in fighting against Covid-19, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Every year, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) holds the International Letter Writing Contest, inspiring young writers aged 9-15 to write letters on a specific theme. The competition aims to develop writing skills and encourage youth to express their thoughts on social issues. It also fosters awareness and responsibility towards society, nation, and the world among the young generation.
