This history behind the symbol is that a competition to create a national emblem for the country was launched in 1951, drawing the participation of painters nationwide.
Painter Bui Trang Chuoc (1915-1992) was the competition’s eventual winner and was granted the privilege of being the designer for Vietnam’s national emblem.
He went on to graduate from Indochina Fine Art College in 1941 before entering the design contest in June 1951. In October 1954, from a total of 112 designs, 15 designs by artist Bui Trang Chuoc were chosen and were subsequently reported to the government.
The exhibition is being held to mark the 75th anniversary of the August Revolution, which falls on August 19, and Vietnamese National Day, on September 2. It will last through to September 6.
