Director of the Ho Chi Minh Museum’s Ho Chi Minh City branch, Pham Cao Thuan, announced exciting plans for the museum’s future during a celebration of its 45th anniversary.

Thuan revealed that the restoration of the Latouche-TrĂ©ville, a French ship instrumental in Vietnam’s history, is a key part of the museum’s expansion project, which has been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee.

“Phase 1 will involve renovating and restoring the museum’s landscape, existing spaces, and the kitchen where President Ho Chi Minh worked on the ship,” Thuan explained. “We will ensure it is an accurate, life-size replica.”

He also provided insights into Phase 2, sharing that the museum will expand towards Saigon Port, with plans to design and enlarge the exhibition space. The museum is also pursuing national historical relic status for the Ho Chi Minh City branch, recognizing its significance in the country’s history.

The Latouche-TrĂ©ville holds a special place in Vietnam’s history. In 1911, a young Nguyen Tat Thanh, later known as President Ho Chi Minh, boarded the ship under the name Van Ba. This journey marked the beginning of his 30-year quest to find a path to national liberation and independence for Vietnam.

During his travels, Ho Chi Minh founded the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1925, and in 1942, he adopted the name we know him by today. As Ho Chi Minh, he read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi in 1945, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

The country’s first democratic elections were held, and the National Assembly appointed Ho Chi Minh as the president of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1946. Sadly, he passed away in 1969.

The anniversary celebration was followed by a special exhibition at the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Ho Chi Minh City. This exhibition showcased 39 unique artifacts, 17 of which were from the local branch. The artifacts were crafted from various materials, each representing significant events in President Ho Chi Minh’s life.

Over the past 45 years, the Ho Chi Minh Museum’s Ho Chi Minh City branch has dedicated itself to preserving and promoting the heritage and values associated with President Ho Chi Minh. It has become a revolutionary education center and a popular destination for visitors and international tourists, attracting millions annually.
