The Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival is an annual event celebrating Vietnamese culture and tradition. This year, from October 4 to 6, the festival will be held at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh District.

According to the August 27 press conference in Hanoi, the festival aims to showcase the beauty of Vietnam, the ao dai, and the city of Hanoi as a “safe and welcoming, high-quality, and appealing” destination for tourists and international visitors.

The organizers also hope to establish the ao dai as a “tourism ambassador” and make the Hanoi Ao Dai Tourism Festival a signature event in the city’s tourism calendar.

The festival’s highlight is an art program, The Essence of Ao Dai, which pays tribute to the Vietnamese traditional long dress through three chapters: Golden History, Interference Bridge, and Spreading Journey.

The performances will metaphorically depict the historical journey of Hanoi over 70 years since its liberation in 1954, using the ao dai as a symbolic representation of the city’s progress and development.

The event will also feature vibrant music and dance performances, accompanied by ao dai fashion shows showcasing the works of renowned local designers such as La Hang, Cao Minh Tien, Thuy Nguyen, and Duc Hung, among others.

The grand finale, the Ao Dai Carnival, themed “Hanoi Women in Integration and Development,” promises to be a spectacular display of fashion and culture. It will be held at the iconic Thang Long Imperial Citadel on October 5, with the participation of women representing all 579 communes, wards, and townships of Hanoi.

In addition to the carnival parade, the program will include an ao dai fashion show by designers, a design contest, and exhibitions by various designers and brands. Visitors can also explore Hanoi’s tourism offerings, traditional craft villages, live demonstrations by artisans, and indulge in the delicious Ha Thanh cuisine at the “Thang Long Ngu Vi” food space.

Approximately 80 to 100 booths will be set up at the festival, displaying the creations of ao dai designers and brands from across North, Central, and South Vietnam.

The Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival is organized by the Hanoi Department of Tourism to promote the city’s tourism by merging culture, tradition, and fashion. It aims to showcase the beauty of Hanoi and Vietnam to the world while also fostering a love and appreciation for the ao dai among its people.
