The Vietnamese national football team is set to face off against football giants Russia and Thailand in a series of friendly matches this September, providing crucial preparation for the upcoming 2024 ASEAN Championship.
These upcoming friendlies hold significant importance for Vietnam’s strategic preparations. Over the years, Vietnam and Thailand have gone head-to-head seven times, resulting in one victory for Vietnam, four draws, and Thailand leading with two wins. Vietnam’s sole win against Thailand occurred during the King’s Cup 2019 friendly, thanks to a goal by the veteran striker Nguyen Anh Duc.
As Vietnam gears up for the ASEAN Championship, scheduled for November 23 to December 21, these matches against strong opponents present a valuable opportunity to fine-tune their tactics and test their mettle. Additionally, the Vietnam U20s will also gain international exposure by playing friendlies against their Russian counterparts on September 6 and 8.
