The Belgian stilt-walking group from Merchtem is set to captivate audiences once more at the Hue Festival, marking their fifth appearance at Vietnam’s premier international cultural event. Led by Head Roger Daelemans, the group is thrilled to showcase their unique talent and foster cultural exchange.
Beyond their stunning performances, the Merchtem team will also be conducting field trips to teach Vietnamese youth the art of stilt-walking through flood waters. With a rich history spanning nearly eight decades, the group has proudly introduced the traditional art form, recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of the Flanders region, to the world.
The Hue Festival 2024, themed “Cultural Heritage amid Integration and Development,” promises a diverse array of attractions. From performances by international and local artists to a food festival and showcases of Hue’s renowned royal court music and songs, the event will be a celebration of cultural fusion and creativity.
Joining Merchtem are an array of talented artists, including contemporary performers, hip-hop dancers from Cergy, France; the vibrant Flamenco Hispano from Spain; Japan’s energetic Eisa Urakaji troupe; Zhejiang Theatre Company from China; Canadian pianist Steve Barakatt; and two art groups from the Republic of Korea. With such a diverse lineup, the Hue Festival 2024 is set to be an unforgettable cultural extravaganza.
