Over the past five years, Google Trends data reveals a threefold increase in searches for “slow travel.” This emerging travel trend encourages visitors to prolong their stays at destinations, offering them the opportunity to delve deeper into local cultures, forge stronger connections with the community, and uncover a myriad of unique tourist attractions.
The list and ranking of destinations were determined by analyzing booking data from the travel platform Agoda for the first quarter of 2024 across eight Asian markets.
The notable destinations renowned for their long-term appeal include Khao Lak in Thailand, Seoul in South Korea, Perhentian Island in Malaysia, Tokyo in Japan, Siargao Island in the Philippines, Pekanbaru in Indonesia, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, and Ahmedabad in India.
Within Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City takes the lead in long-stay trips, followed by Bac Ninh Province and Phu Quoc Island. On the international front, Vietnamese travelers seeking slow travel tend to favor Manila in the Philippines as their go-to destination.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam, Director of Agoda in Vietnam, offers insight into the allure of slow travel: “It’s easy to understand why slow travel has emerged as one of the most enticing trends.
