As per the schedule, he will be judging the Best First or Second Film category.

Tom Cross began his career in 1997 as an assistant editor, working on various projects including We Own the Night, Crazy Heart, and the Primetime Emmy Award-Winning drama series Deadwood.

In 2015, he gained global recognition for his outstanding work on Damien Chazelle’s film Whiplash, winning the Academy Award, Independent Spirit Award, and BAFTA Award for Best Editing.

In 2016, Cross collaborated once again with writer/director Damien Chazelle on the romantic musical comedy La La Land, receiving nominations for an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award. He also won the 2017 American Cinema Editor’s Award for his exceptional editing in the film.

As a Vietnamese American film editor, he was nominated for a 2019 BAFTA Award for Best Editing for the Western drama Hostiles and received an ACE Award for Best Edited Feature Film. He earned the Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Editing in 2019, as well as a BAFTA for best editing for the James Bond film No Time to Die, directed by Cary Fukunaga.

Tom Cross’s latest project is Damien Chazelle’s 2022 film Babylon for Paramount, which secured him a nomination at the Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Editing.

He has recently completed editing James Wan’s upcoming film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
