The Vietnamese Consulate General in Perth, in collaboration with the Australian Vietnamese Family Association (AVFA) and artists and artisans from Ho Chi Minh City, organized an event in Palmerston City on March 2 to promote Vietnamese culture during the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival, according to VNA.
The large-scale event was attended by many Australian officials, Vietnamese people, and foreign friends in Northern Australia.

The event not only served as a gathering place and spread the festive atmosphere of the new spring to the Vietnamese community during Tet but also provided new cultural experiences to international friends in Northern Australia through various activities and traditional games. It aimed to promote mutual understanding and ensure that the younger generation of Vietnamese-Australians do not forget their roots.
The event showcased the art of tea drinking, calligraphy, traditional “ao dai” (long dress) shows, art performances, Vietnamese handicrafts, and folk games.
Consul General Nguyen Thanh Ha briefed the participants on Vietnam’s outstanding achievements in 2023, the Vietnam-Australia relations, and praised the contributions of the Vietnamese community to the local socio-economic development and the bilateral ties.

Talking about the Vietnamese community in Northern Australia, Ha mentioned that despite its modest size with only over 2,500 people, the community has made remarkable contributions to the local socio-economic development and has been recognized and appreciated by the local authorities. Additionally, it plays a pivotal role as a bridge actively connecting Northern Australia and Vietnam.
The diplomat expressed her hope that the Northern Australian authorities would further facilitate such cultural activities and strengthen trade, investment, and tourism links between the two sides.
Prior to this event, in December 2023, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Australia, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Western Australia and Northern Australia invited tea master Ngo Thi Thanh Tam and people with experience in international cultural exchange activities to attend and perform the art of tea ceremony in Western Australia.
Art programme to welcome Lunar New Year’s Eve
