The official announcement was made during the 7th Traditional Festival of Phu Thuong Sticky Rice Craft Village held on February 17. This prestigious title serves as a recognition for the cultural value and significance of Phu Thuong sticky rice and the traditional festival in Tay Ho District, Hanoi.
Bui Thi Lan Phuong, the Vice Chairwoman of Tay Ho District, stated that this recognition contributes to honoring the craft and acknowledges the local community’s effort in preserving and promoting the traditional values of Hanoi.
Located along the Red River and also known as Phu Gia or Ga Village, Phu Thuong Village has a rich history of rice cultivation, with Xoi Phu Thuong being an integral part of the cultural heritage.
Every year, on the 8th, 9th, and 10th days of the first lunar month, villagers prepare sticky rice to offer to the village’s tutelary god as part of a custom to pray for a prosperous, happy, and peaceful new year.

In 2016, Phu Thuong was officially designated as “Hanoi’s Traditional Handicraft Village.” Several variations of sticky rice dishes such as xoi ngu sac (five-color sticky rice), xoi xeo (sticky rice with fried onion and ground mung bean), and xoi che (sticky rice with sweet dessert soup) from Phu Thuong were awarded 4 stars by Hanoi’s OCOP (One Commune, One Product) program.
Since then, the popularity of Xoi Phu Thuong has grown among both locals and foreigners. This remarkable specialty has been actively promoted in various events and destinations. Notably, it was served alongside eight other famous dishes at the press center during the 2019 Trump-Kim Hanoi Summit.
By being showcased at such significant occasions, Xoi Phu Thuong continues to gain recognition and promote its quality and brand both domestically and internationally.
