President Vo Van Thuong has issued Decision No. 99/2024/QD-CTN to approve the agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters between Vietnam and Italy, according to VNA.
Vietnam and Italy established diplomatic relations on October 25, 1973, and upgraded their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership in January 2013. Over the past five decades, their relationship has flourished and achieved significant milestones across various fields.

The ratification is a necessary step in the current situation, providing a solid legal foundation for the law enforcement agencies of both countries to cooperate in mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and better protect the rights and interests of their citizens. This will contribute to enhancing the cooperation between the judicial agencies of both countries in particular and between Vietnam and Italy in general.
The agreement is expected to further enhance cooperation between the two countries and bring about positive impacts in various areas.
It is also in line with Vietnam’s foreign policy of active and proactive integration into the global community as a responsible member.
It demonstrates Vietnam’s commitment to fulfilling its international obligations in the field of criminal justice and its efforts to prevent and combat crime.
