The New Year Concert 2024 will showcase a selection of 18 songs that represent or are related to Spanish and Italian Pop Opera, a music genre that emerged in the early 1900s and combines elements of classical opera with contemporary pop music.
One of the distinguishing features of this genre is the use of operatic vocal techniques, such as bel canto and vibrato, in the performance of modern pop songs.
The concert will feature popular soundtracks like “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” from the 1996 film “Evita,” “Nella Fantasia” from the 1986 film “The Mission,” “Oblivion” from the 1984 Italian film “Enrico IV,” and other popular pop songs.
The program will also include compositions influenced by the genre, such as Tchaikovsky’s “Spanish Dance,” Isaac Albéniz’s “Tango In D, Op 165, No 2,” and Arturo Márquez’s “Daz’s Danzón No 2.”
The performance will highlight the talents of tenors Pham Trang and Tran Thanh Nam, baritone Dao Mac, sopranos Duyen Nguyet and Pham Khanh Ngoc, as well as other HBSO soloists. The HBSO choir and symphony orchestra will also take part in the concert.
In addition, violinist Tang Thanh Nam and oboist Pham Khanh Toan will have their own featured performances during the concert.
The concert will be conducted by Le Phi Phi, a renowned conductor from North Macedonia who graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory in 1993.
Phi has collaborated with numerous notable artists, symphony orchestras, choirs, musical theaters, and ballet companies throughout Europe.
He has also conducted training courses for young musicians at various conservatories in North Macedonia. Despite his international career, he frequently returns to Vietnam to perform with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra (HBSO), and the Hà Nội Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as to conduct national concerts such as “Dieu Con Mai” (Remaining with Time) and “Xuan Que Huong” (Homeland Spring).
Currently, he is a faculty member at the State Music and Ballet School Centre Ilija Nikolovski-Luj in North Macedonia.
The concert will commence at 8 pm at 7 Lam Son Square in District 1. Tickets can be purchased at the venue.
