Vietnamese volleyball player Tran Thi Thanh Thuy effectively utilized her height advantage, utilizing strong attacks and solid blocks to propel Vietnam to a commanding 14-9 lead in the opening set.
Australia displayed a remarkable resurgence as their middle blocker, Kara Inskip, and opposite hitter, Emma Burton, unleashed successive attacks, presenting a formidable obstacle for Vietnam.
The Vietnamese players retaliated with assertive counter-attacks, securing pivotal points and ultimately triumphing in the set with a score of 25-15.
Vietnam maintained their impressive performance in the second set, holding a commanding seven-point lead at 9-2 while still holding on to their 1-0 advantage.
Despite the valiant efforts of Australia to mount a comeback with a combination of formidable attacks and impressive blocks, Vietnam prevailed and secured the set with a score of 25-15.
Vietnamese Team Dominates Third Set
In the third set, the Vietnamese team displayed exceptional control as they built a commanding lead of 8-1. They continued to assert their dominance and established a five-point advantage at 20-15.
Vietnam’s confident and consistent gameplay led them to make the strategic decision of resting key players and substituting in younger talents.
Australia took advantage of the situation to reduce the deficit to 21-23.
Unfortunately, Vietnam’s resurgence arrived too late as opposite hitter Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh delivered two consecutive points, ultimately securing a hard-earned 25-21 victory in the set and ultimately sealing the match.

Vietnam secured a spot in the semifinals with a remarkable 3-0 victory. This outstanding performance has solidified their position as one of the top contenders at the Asian championship. Despite having one more classification-round match remaining, Vietnam has already achieved their best-ever performance in the tournament.
The team’s impressive winning streak continued with their fourth consecutive triumph, following victories over South Korea, Uzbekistan, and Taiwan in the group stage.
Vietnam, along with South Korea, emerged as the leading teams in Group C and have secured their spot in the classification round. They will compete in Pool E, alongside Thailand (the host country) and Australia.
In the upcoming classification-round match, Vietnam will face Thailand, who have also advanced to the semifinals. Thailand secured their spot in the semifinals by defeating South Korea 3-0 on Sunday. The match is scheduled to take place at 6:00 pm on Monday, according to Vietnam time.
The 2023 Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship saw 14 teams vying for victory across four groups. Following the initial rounds, 12 teams advanced to the classification round.
The top three teams from the tournament will qualify for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship.
China has emerged as the dominant force in the event, securing 13 titles in the 20 previous editions. Japan follows with five victories, while Thailand has managed to clinch two titles.
Unfortunately, the 2021 edition of the event had to be canceled in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vietnam has achieved notable success in international rankings, particularly securing a fifth-place position in both 2015 and 2017.
