The event commemorated the momentous 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan. Its primary objective was to present Vietnam as a secure and trustworthy destination to Japanese tourists.

The tourism promotion program was jointly organized by Saigontourist Group, a leading Vietnamese tour operator, Vietnam Airlines, the national flag carrier of Vietnam, and All Nippon Airways (ANA), a prominent Japanese airline. The event attracted more than 100 Japanese enterprises, associations, and reporters.

In the first half of 2023, Oita witnessed a significant resurgence in the number of Vietnamese travelers visiting Japan, reaching levels comparable to pre-pandemic times.

However, Oita also pointed out that the number of Japanese tourists visiting Vietnam is still relatively low, as many Japanese travelers are still hesitant to engage in international travel following the pandemic.

Representatives from Japanese airlines, tour operators, and accommodation service providers, including ANA, JTB, and APEX, have indicated that Japanese visitors are increasingly drawn to golf tours, leisure travel, and beauty tours in Vietnam.

Vietnam has been chosen as one of the 24 safe and enchanting destinations by the Japanese government. This information was announced during a press briefing organized by the Japan Tourism Agency and the Japan Association of Travel Agents in May.

Pham Huy Binh, chairman of Saigontourist Group, affirmed that Japan is a key market for Vietnam’s tourism industry. It is also one of the top five international markets for the group. This statement is made on behalf of Vietnamese travel firms.

Prior to the onset of the pandemic, Saigontourist Group catered to more than 200,000 Japanese tourists annually in Vietnam. Additionally, its subsidiary, Saigontourist Travel Service Company, facilitated the travel of tens of thousands of Vietnamese visitors to Japan each year.

According to Binh, the collaboration in organizing the tourism promotion program in Tokyo was a strategic move by Saigontourist Group. The objective was to stimulate tourism, diversify the pool of international visitors, and capitalize on cooperative prospects in Japan following the pandemic.

During the event, a representative from Vietnam Airlines made a commitment to resume operations on the remaining air routes connecting Vietnam and Japan. Additionally, they expressed their intention to increase flight frequency in order to foster trade and tourism growth between the two countries.

“The program provided an opportunity for Vietnamese travel firms and air carriers to collaborate with Japanese partners in seeking effective solutions to tap into the tourism sector,” stated Trinh Ngoc Thanh, Deputy General Director of the airline.

In the scope of the program, Saigontourist Group and Vietnam Airlines have entered into agreements with prominent partners in Japan, including the Japan Association of Travel Agents, the Japan National Tourism Organization, ANA, Peace In Tour, and MS Tour, to enhance bilateral collaboration in the tourism sector.

Saigontourist Group, Vietnam Airlines, and ANA are collaborating to launch a tourism promotion program in Osaka, Japan on Friday.
