The Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IPO) and the Ministry of Science have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) to enhance intellectual property cooperation. The signing ceremony took place in Hanoi on June 22.

The document needs to be replaced as it was inked in 2009.

Addressing the event, IPO General Director Dinh Huu Phi emphasized the successful development of the Vietnam – RoK relations. These relations were upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership on the occasion of the 30th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties in December last year.

The Republic of Korea (RoK) has become the leading foreign investor in Vietnam. The two nations have developed and participated in various bilateral and multilateral collaboration mechanisms, including the Vietnam-Korea Free Trade Agreement (VKFTA) that entered into force in December 2025. This agreement has laid the groundwork for advancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The two offices have witnessed close and effective cooperation, Phi said, noting that joint cooperative programmes and projects between them have served as a testament to the good cooperation relationship between Vietnam and the RoK in general, and the special support of the RoK government for Vietnam’s intellectual property system in particular.

The two agencies will share updated information on intellectual property development, experiences, policies, and common approaches to enhance efficiency in intellectual property management and appraisal.

Furthermore, they will carry out in-depth research and facilitate knowledge-sharing between the two sides. They will also provide assistance in implementing multilateral cooperation frameworks, such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), specifically in terms of protecting intellectual property rights.

She expressed her hope that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KIPO and IPO will serve to strengthen their partnership, improve their capabilities, and further advance their respective intellectual property systems.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism signed an MoU with the Republic of Korea in 2013 on cooperation in copyrights and related rights.

The two countries have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance their cooperation in the field of copyrights and related rights. Through this MoU, they have carried out various cooperative activities such as exchanging legal and technical documents and participating in projects and events organized by international organizations like the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). These efforts highlight their commitment to working together and promoting the protection of intellectual property rights.

The two sides also fostered the exchange and collaboration between their management, law enforcement, and supporting agencies in the field.
