Construction Begins on Bridge Financed by Vietnamese Expatriates

To date, the Overseas Vietnamese Group (VK Group) has constructed and opened 280 bridges of friendship in provinces located in the south and center of the country.

The People’s Committee of Tri Ton town cooperated with VK (Overseas Vietnamese) Group to start construction of the VK No. 281 friendship bridge (locally known as Kenh Ranh 16 bridge) on June 20 in Tri Ton district, the Mekong Delta province of An Giang.

Attending the groundbreaking ceremony were Lo Vinh Huy, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tri Ton town, along with sponsors and representatives of VK Group.

According to VK group Deputy Head Nguyen Thi Yen Thu, the VK 281 bridge is 26 meters long, 3.5 meters wide, with a construction cost of about VND 342 million (USD 14.500). In which, the VK Group supports the locality with 50% of the construction cost. It is expected that the bridge will be completed and put into use on July 30, 2023. This is the 281st bridge of the VK Group contributed to construction since its establishment in 2004 until now.

Representatives of the local government, the sponsors and the VK Group performed the groundbreaking ceremony to start the construction of the bridge.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the VK 281 friendship bridge, Lo Vinh Huy said that with the consent of the people and the joint support. With the support of the VK Group, Kenh Ranh Bridge 16 was started construction. This will be a meaningful bridge connecting the arterial roads of the town with the communes.

At the same time, it contributes to accelerating socio-economic development and improving the living standards of local people, Huy added.

On behalf of the local government, the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tri Ton town pledged to assign and supervise the construction to ensure the bridge was built on schedule and with quality assurance, and will promote efficiency when the bridge is completed and put into use.

It is known that the VK group initially consisted of just over 10 expatriates from Canada, the US, France, Japan, Australia… was established in 2004 with the purpose of building 10 traffic bridges for the Southwest region. When 10 bridges were built, many people saw this as a meaningful work, so they joined hands with the group.

Up to now, the VK group has built and put into use 280 friendship bridges in the southern and central provinces, with a total length of more than 7,500 meters, a total value of more than VND 43 billion (USD 1.8 million). In particular, the VK group self-advocates to support the locality with about 50% of the construction cost.
