Uijeongbu Hosts Vietnam-Korea Cultural Exchange Event

On May 7, Vietnamese expatriates gathered in Uijeongbu, a city in the Republic of Korea (RoK), to celebrate 31 years of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the RoK. The two countries marked the occasion with a cultural exchange between their expatriate communities.

Addressing the programme, Mai Thi Hong Ngoc, President of the Vietnam Women’s Union in the Republic of Korea (RoK), noted that the cultural exchange aimed to promote mutual friendship and understanding, as well as to popularize the cultural values of the two countries.

The Vietnam – Korea Cultural Exchange also presents an opportunity for Vietnamese expatriates to express their national pride, continuously enhance their cultural and spiritual life, and publicize Vietnamese culture to the host community, emphasized Ngoc.

He expressed his belief that the programme will help strengthen the solidarity and friendship between the two countries and peoples.

In his speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to the RoK, Nguyen Vu Tung, expressed his appreciation for the Vietnam Women’s Union in the RoK for organizing this programme to contribute to the cultural exchanges between the two countries. He strongly believed that this programme would help to further strengthen the solidarity and friendship between the two countries and their respective peoples.

He briefed participants on the encouraging development in the Vietnam – RoK relations, stating that the two countries’ top leaders have agreed to elevate the Vietnam – RoK relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, establishing a legal corridor for bolstering bilateral cooperation in the coming decades.

The programme included a singing competition, performances of traditional musical instruments, folk games, painting on Vietnam’s iconic conical hats, and a display of delicious food, drawing in crowds of people from both countries, especially members of the Vietnam-Korea multicultural families.

During the programme, the Uijeongbu Support Centre for Foreign Workers, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Labor Management Office in the Republic of Korea (RoK), provided consultation services for workers. Additionally, the organizers and sponsors awarded five scholarships to disadvantaged students, providing them with the opportunity to continue their studies.
