Vietnam – Thailand Friendship Association Sets Direction in New Term

On May 4, the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association in Hoa Binh province held the 2nd Congress of Delegates, term 2023-2028. The Association determines that in the new term, it will strengthen activities, mobilize and develop young members, overseas Vietnamese children and those who voluntarily apply to join the Association.

The Association will continue to follow the motto “Active, flexible, creative, effective,” strengthen advocacy, perform well the people-to-people diplomacy; foster friendship exchange activities, promote Hoa Binh’s image to international friends.

The Association strengthens aid mobilization to contribute to socio-economic development for the province; develop solidarity and cooperation between the people of Vietnam and Thailand.

The Vietnam – Thailand Friendship Association will build specific, meaningful programs and activities, inform members clearly about the functions and tasks of the Association; raise awareness and understanding of members about people-to-people diplomacy.

They proposed the Department of Home Affairs and the Union of Friendship Organizations of Hoa Binh province to organize training courses on people-to-people diplomacy for leaders of Friendship Associations to meet the requirements in the new situation. The Association also proposed the Provincial People’s Committee and the Friendship Union to support the operating funds for the member associations, creating conditions for them to operate better.

Speaking at the congress, Nguyen Viet Loan, vice president and general secretary of the Central Committee of the Vietnam – Thailand Friendship Association, said that the current members of the Association are mainly women and overseas Vietnamese who used to live in Laos and Thailand.

He suggested that the Association pay more attention to expanding and strengthening the organization, developing its members, especially young people and all those who care about Thailand.

That contributes to building and strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand, contributing to enriching activities of the Association.

According to Loan, many relatives of overseas Vietnamese in Thailand have business relationships with businessmen in Thailand.

This is an opportunity for the Vietnam – Thailand Friendship Association of the province to promote its role as a bridge, linking people-to-people diplomacy with the local socio-economic development goals. In particular, people can introduce products of Hoa Binh and neighboring localities to Thailand. Through economic cooperation activities, friendly relations and mutual understanding between the two peoples are enhanced.

Nguyen Viet Loan asked the leaders of Hoa Binh province, relevant departments and agencies to create favorable conditions for the Vietnam – Thailand Friendship Association to operate well.

He affirmed that the Central Committee of the Vietnam – Thailand Friendship Association will try to create the most favorable conditions, exchange information, experience, and situation so that the Association can complete its task.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, standing vice president of the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations, hopes that the Association will continue to promote and implement the Association’s activities, and advise the provincial leaders to organize more meaningful activities in the new term.

She suggested that the Executive Board set out specific directions and action plans to have clear goals in the new term; increase male and young members. The Provincial Friendship Union will continue to accompany the Association to boost activities and fulfill the tasks assigned by the province.

She also proposed the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam – Thailand Friendship Association to have support activities for local associations in the coming time, introduce to the province aid projects and resources to foster the Association’s activities.
