Binh affirmed that the Paris Peace Accord was a great political and diplomatic victory for the Vietnamese people, a historic turning point in the resistance war against the US for the national independence of Vietnam, leading to the South’s liberation and the reunification of the country.
“The signing of the Paris Peace Accord is a victory of the Vietnamese people’s military, political and diplomatic resistance. At the same time, it is a victory of the world’s movement in support of the Vietnamese people,” said Binh. “The heroic and resilient struggle of the Vietnamese people, received by the biggest international support that world has ever seen, has forced the US government to negotiate and sign the Paris Peace Accord on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam.”
In her speech, Binh recalled the symbolic image of the American friends who set themselves on fire to protest the war. She asked people to never forget the millions of people around the world who defied repression, prison, marches and demonstrations to demand the US.
“All your solidarity and support is the strength to help us on the battlefield as well as on the conference table during the tough and fierce days of wartime,” said Binh.
She also expressed the hope that international friends would maintain their support for Vietnam in the modern stage of national defense and development and asked for their continued support.
