In the latest update to the FIFA futsal rankings, there has been a shuffle in positions for both the men’s and women’s teams from Vietnam. The women’s team has climbed an impressive two spots to secure 11th place, while their male counterparts have slipped one place to 34th.
This movement is a reflection of the teams’ recent performances. The Vietnamese women’s team has been on a roll, finishing as runners-up in the International Women’s Futsal Friendly Tournament in China this July and then taking the top spot in the NSDF Women’s Futsal Championship in Thailand last month. They even managed a draw against the world’s sixth-ranked Thai women’s team.
On the other hand, the men’s team missed out on qualifying for the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan, which has impacted their ranking. Meanwhile, the Thai men’s team also dropped in the rankings after their round-of-16 exit from the same tournament at the hands of France.
The Brazilian men’s and women’s futsal teams remain at the pinnacle of the sport, holding on to their number-one rankings in the October update. This edition also welcomes five new women’s futsal teams onto the world stage: Fiji, Tahiti, Norway, Solomon Islands, and Tonga.
As the rankings shift and teams jostle for position, the Vietnamese men’s futsal squad is hard at work in Ho Chi Minh City, gearing up for the upcoming 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship in Thailand, which kicks off next month.
Will they be able to convert their training into tournament success? Stay tuned to find out!
