In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Ha Thi Linh dominated her match against Vilma Viitannen, ranked eighth globally in the women’s 57kg weight class. From the get-go, Linh seized control, showcasing her prowess and maintaining her lead throughout the three rounds.
Despite Viitannen’s relentless efforts to turn the tides, Linh’s unwavering focus and precision secured her a well-deserved victory with a score of 4-1. The judges’ scores reflected the intensity of the match, with close calls in the second, fourth, and fifth rounds.
Linh’s triumph not only cemented her place in the women’s 60kg weight category at the upcoming 2024 Olympics but also marked the second time a Vietnamese boxer has qualified for the Paris Games. This achievement is a testament to her hard work and talent.

The Vietnam Boxing Federation celebrated Linh’s success by presenting her with a cash reward of VND50 million (US$1,968) and an additional $700. This recognition highlights the significance of her achievement and the pride it brings to her country.
With Linh’s qualification, Vietnam now has 11 athletes ready to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics, which will take place from July 26 to August 11. The country is just one step away from reaching its goal of securing 12 Olympic spots this summer.
Among the 11 qualified Vietnamese athletes are a diverse group of talented individuals: swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, cyclist Nguyen Thi That, markswomen Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen, boxer Vo Thi Kim Anh, weightlifter Trinh Van Vinh, canoeist Nguyen Thi Huong, rower Pham Thi Hue, and badminton players Le Duc Phat and Nguyen Thuy Linh. Each of them has worked tirelessly to represent their country on the world’s biggest sporting stage.
Additionally, swimmer Vo Thi My Tien awaits confirmation of her eligibility from World Aquatics, the international federation governing water sports. The anticipation surrounding her potential participation further fuels the excitement leading up to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
