Canada’s hopes of reaching the continental final were dashed as they fell to Uruguay in a penalty shootout. Ismael Kone’s missed penalty and Alphonso Davies’ crossbar strike sealed the 4-3 shootout win for Uruguay.
The game sprung into life early on. Rodrigo Bentancur opened the scoring for Uruguay, swivelled and smashed home in the eighth minute. But Canada hit back through Kone’s stunning scissor kick just 14 minutes later.

The second half saw Canada take the lead through Kone’s long-range effort, parried by Rochet, with Jonathan David reacting quickest to slot home. But Uruguay fought back, with Luis Suarez scoring his 69th international goal in stoppage time to force penalties.
On Sunday, defending champions Argentina face Colombia in the final at the Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, Florida.
