Vietnam’s national team emerged as champions in the women’s triple competition at the Women and Junior Pétanque World Championship 2023, which concluded on November 27 in Thailand, according to VOV.
The team consisted of four Vietnamese players: Trinh Thi Kim Thanh and Tran Thi Diem Trang from Binh Duong province, and Thach Thi Anh Lan and Kim Thi Thu Thao from Tra Vinh province.

The final match began with the Vietnamese players defeating the hosts, Thailand, with a score of 3-0. They then quickly took the lead with a score of 6-1. However, the Thai opponents quickly caught up, resulting in a tie score of 6-6 a few minutes later.
In the second set, Vietnam dominated the game with a score of 11-8. However, Thailand managed to reverse the situation, bringing the score to 12-11 in their favor.
With great determination, the Vietnamese players managed to pull ahead in the final minutes and finish with a score of 13-12, securing a gold medal.
Their victory came after defeating their French rivals 13-10 in the semi-final round, earning them a place in the finals.

In addition, Thach Thi Anh Lan, a local player, won a silver medal in the individual technical event of the women’s competition after losing to a competitor from Myanmar in the final match.
Pétanque is a French outdoor game in which players take turns throwing a metal ball as close as possible to a smaller wooden ball while standing with their feet together.
In August, female Vietnamese athletes outperformed their Thai opponents in the final game of the fifth Asian Petanque Championship in Malaysia, winning a gold medal. This is the first gold medal that Vietnamese athletes have won in Petanque in the past 20 years.
The fifth Asian Petanque Championship 2023 took place at the Arena Petanque Kuala Lumpur, Pudu Ulu, Malaysia, from August 16 to 21.
The tournament, hosted by the Malaysian Boules Sports Federation, included Men, Women, and Junior Triple and Shooting competitions.
