Vietnamese billiards player Duong Quoc Hoang excelled against his rival from the United States in the final of the 9-Ball Jacoby Scottish Open 2024 on May 6 in Glasgow (Scotland), winning the title for the first time in the history of Vietnamese pool under the World Nineball Tour (WNT) system, VOV reported.

In the opening minutes, Oscar Dominguez took the lead with the score at 8-4. However, Hoang successfully turned the tables on his US rival and won six games in a row, ending up in the 10-8 score.
This year saw the Scottish Open 2024 attract the participation of 104 billiards players from across the globe, including 10 of the world’s leading cueists.
Following the historic victory, Hoang brought home GBP 10,000, equal to VND 316 million (USD 12,500).
“I am over the moon now. It is difficult to describe my feelings when winning my first international title. Honestly, I have been waiting for this moment for a long time. My aspirations, all the pressure, and hard work have brought me to this sweet result today,” Hoang shared.

“In the final, I was a bit exhausted physically and under pressure, so I didn’t feel very comfortable. But in the end, luck came at the right time. I would like to thank everyone who accompanied and supported me throughout the tournament,” said Hoang.
Meanwhile, organizers at the Matchroom posted, “Incredible! He was almost certain to exit the tournament at the hands of Carlo Biado, but he has turned it around in incredible fashion including a stunning win over on-form players like Ko!

Hoang is scheduled to compete at the UK Open Pool Championship 2024 to take place in the UK from May 7 to 12.
The 36-year-old cueist is now at the same level as many globally renowned players, such as Ko Ping-Chung, Ko Pin-Yi, Joshua Filler, Jayson Shaw, Shane van Boening, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, and Fedor Gorst after becoming the first Vietnamese cueist to join the World Professional Nineball Tour Corporation.
