In the opening minutes, Oscar Dominguez took the lead with the score at 8-4. However, Hoang successfully turned the tables on his US rival and won six games in a row, ending up in the 10-8 score.

This year saw the Scottish Open 2024 attract the participation of 104 billiards players from across the globe, including 10 of the world’s leading cueists.

Following the historic victory, Hoang brought home GBP 10,000, equal to VND 316 million (USD 12,500).

“I am over the moon now. It is difficult to describe my feelings when winning my first international title. Honestly, I have been waiting for this moment for a long time. My aspirations, all the pressure, and hard work have brought me to this sweet result today,” Hoang shared.

Meanwhile, organizers at the Matchroom posted, “Incredible! He was almost certain to exit the tournament at the hands of Carlo Biado, but he has turned it around in incredible fashion including a stunning win over on-form players like Ko!

Simply incredible! Vietnam’s Duong Quoc Hoang takes down Oscar Dominguez to win the 2024 Scottish Open, his first WNT ranking title and Vietnam’s first champion in the WNT era.”

Hoang is scheduled to compete at the UK Open Pool Championship 2024 to take place in the UK from May 7 to 12.

The 36-year-old cueist is now at the same level as many globally renowned players, such as Ko Ping-Chung, Ko Pin-Yi, Joshua Filler, Jayson Shaw, Shane van Boening, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, and Fedor Gorst after becoming the first Vietnamese cueist to join the World Professional Nineball Tour Corporation.
