According to the Central Bank of Ecuador, trade between Vietnam and Ecuador in 2022 will reach $362 million. Vietnam’s exports to Ecuador reached $228 million, a 4.1% increase from 2021. The main exports from Vietnam to Ecuador include phones, mobile phones, footwear, fertilizers, clothing, and industrial machinery.

Non-oil imports from Ecuador are worth $134 million, a 208.4% increase from 2021. The main imported items from Ecuador include shrimp, fresh flowers, seafood, wood, and other products.

In July, the Vietnam Trade Office in Chile collaborated with the Quito Chamber of Commerce to organize a trade cooperation seminar between Vietnam and Ecuador businesses to introduce opportunities and potentials of cooperation with Vietnam to businesses in Ecuador.

The Vietnamese side believes that Vietnam’s strong products, like wood products, textiles, footwear, and coffee, will have a greater presence in the Ecuadorian market. The deal also highlights the potential of Ecuadorian products in Vietnam, such as cocoa, chocolate, fresh flowers, and wood.

After the seminar, many Ecuadorian businesses expressed interest in importing footwear, clothing, plastic products, outdoor furniture, handicraft products from bamboo, and labor protection products from Vietnam.

As part of the visit to Ecuador, the delegation had a working session with the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce to further promote bilateral trade relations and prepare for a visit to learn about Ecuador’s shrimp farming experience.

The delegation also visited and worked with the largest Vietnamese coffee importer in Ecuador. This company imports around $60 million of Robusta VG2 coffee from Vietnam annually.
