Unveiling Rajasthan’s New Avatar: Modi Champions the State’s Business Potential at the December 9 Summit

In 2003, as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, PM Modi pioneered the concept of a grand business summit with the inauguration of Vibrant Gujarat. This groundbreaking initiative set a precedent for all subsequent business summits across India, showcasing Modi's visionary leadership and his commitment to fostering a vibrant business landscape in the state and beyond.

Rajasthan, known for its camels, forts, sand dunes, and vibrant turbans, is seeking to rebrand itself as India’s next business hub. On December 9th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the state’s inaugural summit, ‘Rising Rajasthan’, in Jaipur, aiming to showcase the state’s economic potential.

With a current economic size of over Rs 15 lakh crore, the Rajasthan government has set its sights on doubling it to Rs 30 lakh crore. In her budget speech this year, Finance Minister Diya Kumari announced a goal of making the state a $350 billion economy by 2047, outlining 10 resolutions to achieve this vision.

The concept of a high-profile business summit is not new to PM Modi, who initiated Vibrant Gujarat during his tenure as the state’s chief minister in 2003. ‘Rising Rajasthan’ follows a similar model but on a smaller scale. What sets it apart is the emphasis on communication and ease of doing business, with dedicated IAS and RAS officers assigned to facilitate international and domestic investment.

The three-day event will also include a day dedicated to non-resident Rajasthanis, and the state has already introduced 21 investment policies to attract businesses. This shift towards a business-friendly environment marks a significant change from the past, where the state was known for its ‘revdi’ culture of freebies.

As Jaipur prepares to welcome PM Modi and the summit attendees, the government is hopeful that ‘Rising Rajasthan’ will be a stepping stone towards achieving its ambitious economic goals and creating numerous direct and indirect job opportunities.
