The great irrigation project of Ke Go lake was built in 1976-1979. It is located in the basin of Rao Cai river in Cam My commune, Cam Xuyen district (Ha Tinh province). Some of the very first items here were designed and built by the French.

This is also the destination mentioned in the famous song “People go to build Ke Go Lake” by musician Nguyen Van Ty.

More than 40 years ago, to build this magnificent irrigation project, thousands of people had to work together on the barren land to “break rocks and dig gravel” to create the lake. The project was completed three years after that. The people of Ha Tinh were overjoyed.

After years and years of expansion and renovation, currently, the lake has a length of 30km, with a capacity of over 300 million m3 of water, located in the Cai river basin, which receives hundreds of streams of the Truong Son range.

Not only is it a place to provide water and prevent erosion but Ke Go Lake is also a welcoming destination that attracts tourists with its peaceful and poetic scenery with a mixture of blue sky, mountains, and clear stream water.

This important irrigation project in Ha Tinh province is also one of the largest dams in Vietnam. Ke Go Lake has a capacity of more than 3 million m3 of water from the lake along the main canals with a length of 250 km, irrigating more than 21,000 hectares of arable land in Cam Xuyen, Thach Ha, and Ha Tinh city districts; contribute to preventing flash floods and preventing erosion in downstream areas.

The beauty of Ke Go Lake lies not only in the natural scenery of the mountains, but the highlight is the bridge leading to the island, where the temple of the late General Secretary Le Duan is located on the lake bed, surrounded by clear blue water.

The temple was built in 2011 and completed 3 years later. Le Duan temple is located in the middle of Ke Go lake oasis. This temple is visited by many locals and tourists.

Visiting the Hometown of Great Poet Nguyen Du
The special national relic site to commemorate Nguyen Du is currently a favourite destination for visitors as it is the hometown of the celebrated poet who wrote the masterpiece “Truyen Kieu” (the Tale of Kieu). Preceding the 250th anniversary of his birthday (1765-2015), we paid a visit to the Nguyen Du Memorial, a place of great humanitarian, educational and scientific values.
