The Phuoc Tinh Fishing Wharf, nestled in Phuoc Tinh Commune, Long Dien District, in the province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau, buzzes with life and activity. Known for its impressive fleet of fishing boats and exceptional seafood yield, it is a pivotal hub for the fishing industry in Southern Vietnam’s eastern region.
Phuoc Tinh Commune is home to over 1,200 fishing vessels of various sizes, with approximately 1,100 of them being offshore boats, each boasting a capacity of at least 90 CV. Fishing is the primary livelihood for the locals of Long Dien District, and this industry is recognized as a key sector. The district’s total aquatic product yield reaches a remarkable 60,000 tons per year, securing the top spot in the province.
Each day, the wharf comes alive as the fishing fleets of Phuoc Tinh and Long Hai Villages, along with offshore boats from neighboring provinces, return from their maritime ventures and anchor by 3 a.m. This bustling scene is accompanied by the unloading of thousands of tons of fresh seafood. Women play a crucial role in the process, skillfully cleaning, classifying, and selling the fish to merchants.
In tandem with the fishing activities, the district has witnessed the robust development of ancillary services. These include ice production, dried seafood processing, sauce making, and fuel supply, all of which have contributed to enhancing the local community’s standard of living.
