The Hanoi Lotus Festival 2024 is in full bloom, and as part of the vibrant celebrations, a lotus arrangement contest themed “Tay Ho Lotus Shapes” took place on July 12, showcasing the beauty of this noble flower.

Each ward in Tay Ho District presented their unique take on lotus arrangements, with two vases each bearing their ward nameplate. The contest also encouraged local lotus pond owners to participate, adding their brand of creativity to the event.

Bui Thi Lan Phuong, Vice Chairwoman of the Tay Ho District People’s Committee, shared the criteria for judging the contest entries: “We are looking for artistic creativity, a harmonious and delicate combination of elements, and, of course, the overall beauty of the lotus arrangements.”
The competition concluded with an award ceremony, recognizing the talented participants. Tu Lien Ward took home the first prize, followed by Nhat Tan Ward, Buoi Ward, and Quang An Ward, who received second prizes. Thuy Khue Ward, Yen Phu Ward, Phu Thuong Ward, and Xuan La Ward were awarded third prizes. Additionally, display awards were presented to Nhat Tan Ward and Quang An Ward.
The Hanoi Lotus Festival 2024, a five-day event from July 12 to 16, is being held at the Tay Ho District Creative and Cultural Space. It offers a range of activities that honor lotus farming and the diverse products derived from this versatile flower.

Le Thi Thu Hang, Secretary of the Tay Ho District Party Committee, expressed her hopes for the festival: “The Hanoi Lotus Festival 2024 is an opportunity to preserve and promote the traditional cultural values associated with the lotus. We aim to introduce lotus products from West Lake to a wider audience, including international tourists and ambassadors, showcasing the unique gifts our region has to offer.”
Hanoi also plans to pilot new lotus varieties from both domestic and international sources in the district. Additionally, there are initiatives to convert low-yield rice fields into lotus cultivation zones, utilizing technology to extend the flowering season and diversify the flower’s colors and shapes. These efforts not only enhance the environment but also boost the economic value of the lotus, providing a sustainable source of income for the local community throughout the year.
