At a recent interview with Vietnam Times magazine, Pham Vinh Thai, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Education Publishing House, discussed the ability to extend the "Vietnamese Bookshelf" concept abroad, in order to preserve the Vietnamese language and showcase Vietnamese books in public libraries outside of the country.

The Vietnam Education Publishing House ensures the adequate, synchronized, and timely supply of textbooks and instructional products to serve students, teachers, and a large number of readers nationwide. Additionally, they have compiled and published many documents on the Vietnamese language, literature, culture, and history internationally. Their publications include books teaching the Vietnamese language to Vietnamese people abroad, such as Tieng Viet Vui and Que Viet.

The Vietnam Education Publishing House has actively engaged with relevant units since 2018 to survey the needs of the Vietnamese community abroad. They have conducted scientific research projects, participated in expert seminars, and published the book “Hello Vietnamese” for the community abroad in collaboration with book author Nguyen Thuy Anh. Currently, they are compiling quality topics to preserve the Vietnamese language, introduce, and spread Vietnamese culture across all five continents.

Activities in Celebration of “Day for Honoring Vietnamese Language in Vietnamese Communities Abroad”

The Vietnam Education Publishing House has signed a cooperation agreement with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs to coordinate activities supporting and improving the teaching and learning of Vietnamese for overseas communities. These activities include organizing events to commemorate the Day of Honoring Vietnamese Language in the Vietnamese community abroad, training and sharing teaching and learning methods, maintaining technical support groups for “Hello Vietnamese” teachers, and providing Vietnamese teaching materials and support for communities worldwide. Their publications have reached numerous countries around the world, contributing to language education in the Vietnamese community abroad. They have also collaborated with VTV4 Foreign Television Department to produce the television program “Hello Vietnamese” on VTV4 channel and digital platforms.

Upcoming Activities to Spread the Love for the Vietnamese Language Abroad

In 2024, the Vietnam Education Publishing House and the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese will further promote their achievements. They will continue the “Vietnamese Bookshelf” model and integrate Vietnamese books into the public library system in various countries and territories. Research will be conducted to digitize Vietnamese documents and introduce quality books to the Vietnamese community abroad. Collaboration with the Foreign Television Department (Vietnam Television) VTV4 will continue for the television program “Hello Vietnamese,” and research and development will focus on creating more teaching and learning products and reference materials. The Vietnam Education Publishing House aims to support the preservation of the Vietnamese language and provide a deeper understanding of the home country for the Vietnamese community abroad. They will also work on the development of the Hello Vietnamese book series and an ecosystem of products to support Vietnamese teaching and learning abroad, especially in special areas.
